TNUA College of Cultural Resources — 114-1 Semester Brown Bag Forum III

From Impressionism to Modernism: Curating “The Metropolitan Museum of Art Masterpieces Exhibition”

The third Brown Bag Forum of the semester, hosted by the College of Cultural Resources, Taipei National University of the Arts, will be held on Monday, November 10, 2025, from 12:30 to 14:00 at the Cultural Resources Book Lounge (4F, Research Building).

This session features Mr. Lin Yi-Piao, General Manager of Artron Art Group Taiwan, Chairman of the Chinese Association for Performing Arts and Cultural Development, and Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Graduate Institute of Arts Management and Cultural Policy, with Dean Liu Hui-Ling of the College of Cultural Resources as moderator.

From Impressionism to Modernism: A Transoceanic Dialogue in Art

When masterpieces from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York arrived in Taiwan for the first time, it was not merely an exhibition—it was a dialogue that transcended centuries and oceans.

In this talk, Mr. Lin will share the curatorial journey behind the international collaboration between The Met and the Leonard A. Lauder Foundation, revealing how iconic works by Renoir, Van Gogh, Matisse, and others were brought to the National Palace Museum in Taipei for the landmark exhibition From Impressionism to Modernism: Masterpieces from The Met and the Leonard A. Lauder Collection.

The exhibition marked The Met’s first-ever showcase in Taiwan and coincided with the centennial celebration and reopening of the National Palace Museum’s new gallery—becoming a milestone in Taiwan’s art scene. Over two years of planning, 81 works spanning the 19th to 20th centuries were curated into five thematic sections, tracing the evolution of light, form, and the modern spirit of art.

Mr. Lin will also take the audience behind the scenes of this world-class collaboration—from overseas art transportation and exhibition design to cross-institutional negotiations—offering a rare glimpse into how curators bring masterpieces to life across borders.
It is not only a story of art, but also one of vision, professionalism, and cultural connection.
